From one backyard gym to another, inspiring the love for Muay Thai.
In my mid-teens I was fortunate enough to learn traditional Muay Thai from Khom Sann, in his backyard gym. My initial reason was to learn self-defence and after 7 months of training I couldn’t pass the opportunity to get in the ring when asked. During my first experience I lost by TKO (technical knockout) in the second round. As disappointing as it was, it is true what they say - you learn the most from your losses.
After several fights and wins I progressed to win and defend the amateur WMC NSW title. I then registered as a professional fighter, however this was short lived as I realised that it wasn’t a career for me and stopped competing.
Wanting to share my knowledge and experience I began training my friends as a hobby, eventually they brought their friends to train with me.
What became apparent is that many people want to learn this martial art for self-defence, to add a new skill to their arsenal or to build the foundations or confidence to enrol in a larger facility.
I started to realise that my experience in Muay Thai can help people for various reasons, fast forward two years later, it has become a backyard gym in itself (full circle).
Whether you want to give Muay Thai a try without any long-term commitments, build the foundations/confidence before entering a larger gym or simply adding the skills and fitness to your training regime, you are more than welcome to reach out.
